Caring for your Plant Dyed, Block Printed goods.

Wondering how to care for your new HETTLE goods? It’s really very simple.

Before we ship any of our products they are always washed. In our studio we use a textile detergent, washed by hand with warm water and a cold rinse. You can use any mild detergent you like, but please do avoid bleach at all costs. We typically air dry everything on a wood rack, on occasion we do use a dryer and of course you can do. We recommend this first, because it is better for the environment, but is also extends the life of the color and pattern.

Plant dyed goods are always mordanted. This is done to make the dyed ‘stick’ to the fabric. It is always best to store anything botanically dyed away from direct sunlight to preserve the color.

A word about Indigo dyed goods. We liken caring for these items the same way you would treat a new pair of dark jeans. At first be careful with use on light or white fabrics. Always wash with cold water and line dry.

Block printed inks are always heat sealed with an iron and a dryer. We wash goods prior to shipping, and you can treat them just like any of your other fabrics. A warm iron is perfectly fine use too!
